Safari in Kenya : migration masai mara

What is the best time of year to take my safari in Kenya ?

This period runs from January to March and from July to October. Between April and June (and to a much lesser extent in November) rains can affect the country, but usually don't prevent tourists from taking a Safari. In these months there are less tourists and the hotels are more reasonably priced and have more rooms available.

The great annual migration that takes place between the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya The best time to visit to experience this is between July and October. It can sometimes last until November.

What kind of clothing should I pack for my safari in Kenya?

Choose comfortable, light clothing that dry's easily.

Avoid bright colors as they might scare the animals. We recommend light, natural colors such as beige, khaki, green and brown (the predominant colors of the savannah).

Comfortable shoes are essential as are a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Early in the morning and at night, especially in the northern parks (Masai Mara, ...) it may be considerably cooler. A sweaters (cotton or fleece) and long pants will be useful.

What should never be forgotten in safari?

Cameras (foto & video) and binoculars.
You can recharge the batteries in camps and lodges or in the car during transfers. Important sunscreen !

What documents are needed for entry into Kenya?

- Passport valid for at least six months and with at least one blank page.

- Tourist visa, to be requested directly at

What is the official currency? Can I use my credit card?

The official currency is the Kenyan shilling (Ksh or Kes). 1 € = 100Ksh about.

Not all of the Lodges and Tented Camps and shops accept credit cards but there maybe ATM machines available in towns (Visa, Mastercard, American Express).

U.S. dollars are accepted only if the issue date is after the year 2000.

During the safari may I connect to the Internet?

The 4x4 of Kenya Safari Explorer is equipped with wi-fi : as far as you can enjoy free use of the service during transfers and the safari network coverage permitting.

What additional costs should I consider?

Drinks are not included in the camps and lodges.

Another cost to keep in mind is the gratuities for staff in the camp and lodge (we recommend an allowance of about $ 10 per person per day).
